Our mind is our driving force. It is the most powerful “tool” we have, as it defines our present and future. Therefore, we have to “nourish” it well, to “maintain” it as best we can and to keep it awake.
There are countless ways that help us preserve or even improve our brain functions and thus the quality of our life. Some simple ideas are mentioned below:
No matter how talented you are, drawing stimulates the right-hemisphere of your brain and makes you more creative!
Deep breaths increase oxygen levels and blood-flow to the brain. Just 10-15 minutes of daily deep breathing can make a huge difference in the quality of your life!
Avoid junk food
Well-known and hackneyed but a reminder is always useful! Proper nutrition provides you with energy while junk food deprives it of you … so simple.
Drink red wine
It is rich in antioxidants, chemicals that actually protect the brain. One glass daily is just what you need.
A good debate strengthens your brain’s ability to think quickly and apply intelligence to verbal situations. Get in the habit of questioning others and their thoughts. Questions can provoke new thoughts and ideas and asking them is a great way to build up brain power!
Learn a new language
Learning a new language adds more structure to the brain and improves the brain’s speech centers.
Take 10 minutes daily to think more positive and start noticing an improvement in your thinking abilities and problem solving skills.
Write a text
When you write (an article, a poem, a diary, etc.) you are strengthening your brain’s natural ability to convey thoughts and feelings.
Do crossword puzzles – Play board games
Solving crossword puzzles or playing board games that require critical thinking, you keep your brain in shape, while at the same time you increase your thinking speed.
Reading books teaches your brain to adapt to absorb large amounts of information in shorter periods of time. Books challenge your thinking abilities and memorization skills, as well as boost vocabulary and critical thinking skills.
Listen to classical music
Listening to classical music activates the left hemisphere of the brain, which is why classical music usually helps students do better in mathematics and writing.
Walking puts your mind in a relaxed state of clear thought and brain function. It also gives your brain a chance to wander and free itself from any troubling thoughts.
Don’t be afraid to cry. Crying actually heals emotions and promotes healthy circulation within the brain.
Get some sleep
Your brain also needs sleep in order to rest and refresh. While sleeping your thoughts get into order and your memory keeps thriving!
Keep your mind fit …it’s good for you!
